Beautiful skin is the best makeup. Good skin care is essential for a youthful look. External as well as internal factors affect the health of the skin. According to Ayurveda Vata should be in a balanced form to maintain the health of the skin. Inner physiological processes like digestion, proper elimination of toxins and a well nourished diet play a part in skin’s health.
GENERAL TIPS FOR HEALTHY SKIN.
Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water. This helps to keep your body hydrated and helps to flush out toxins.
Sleep for 6 to 8 hours and avoid sleeping during day time.
Make sure that you take a well nourished diet.
Ensure proper detoxification which will otherwise lead to accumulation of toxins in the body which in turn prevent absorption of nutrients.
Avoid junk foods and food that is too spicy and oily.
Include raw fruits and vegetables in your diet.
Avoid stress and tensions. Keep your mind calm. Try to keep yourself in a happy mood. Meditation and yoga are also helpful.
Try to avoid prolonged use of chemical products as they may harm the natural balance of the skin.

A body massage with medicated oils has many benefits
Body massage helps to improve the blood circulation.

It rejuvenates the skin.
It provides undisturbed sleep.

NATURAL WAYS TO KEEP YOUR SKIN GLOWING BY USING HERBAL AND HOME REMEDIES.
Add few drops of rose water and milk to sandal paste. Apply it on face and neck. Wash when it starts drying. This helps to clear the skin of scars.
A mixture of aloe, cucumber and tomato juice can be used to reduce suntan.
Mix equal quantities of lime juice, rose water and glycerin. Apply it on skin for 15 to 20 minutes. This will help to remove black heads, clear the skin of stains and provide a radiant look.
Mix turmeric with few drops of tulsi juice. This reduces pimples.
Apply a paste of red sandal wood and honey. This clears the skin of scars and helps to check pimples.
Mix lemon and honey in equal quantities. Use this to gently massage your face for 10 to 15 minutes. This makes the skin soft and radiant.
Massage the skin with cream of milk for 5 minutes. Wash it using green gram powder.
Add few drops of milk to a clean cotton ball. Wipe the face with it. It gently cleanses the skin.
Steam facial in skin care.
Steam facial helps to keep the skin hydrated and it increases the blood circulation. Steam facial helps to open the pores and loosen the accumulated dirt. It helps to bring the dirt to the surface which can be removed easily.
Boil water in a pot till the steam starts appearing. When steam starts coming take the pot and keep it on a table and sit with your face over it. You can use a towel to make a tent to cover your face and head. Cover your eyes with wet cotton or some other means. Make sure that the heat is bearable and comfortable. Let the steam cover your face for 5 to 6 minutes. Later use a cleanser to remove the dirt. You can remove the blackheads by gently applying some pressure on that area. Never remove them with your nails. You can also try adding herbs or essential oils to water used for steam facial.

EXFOLIATING THE SKIN.
Exfoliating removes the upper layer of dead cells giving it a fresh look. If not removed properly these dead cells may get accumulated and clog the pores. This gives rise to blackheads and gives the face a dull look.
Ways to exfoliate the skin.
Mix some oatmeal with milk to form a paste. Apply it on the skin and gently massage for few minutes. Let it dry. Wash it with lukewarm water.
Mix green gram or chickpea flour with some honey. Apply it on the face. Gently massage it for 5 to 10 minutes. Wash it with cool water.
You can also use almond powder, or finely powdered rice flour mixed with milk or water to exfoliate the skin.
Massaging the body using medicated oil for 15 to 20 minutes and later washing it off using green gram powder mixed with milk and lemon juice effectively exfoliates the skin.
NOURISHING YOUR SKIN.
A face pack helps to nourish your skin and gives it a fresh and glowing look. Face packs can be applied once in a week.
Homemade facials.
Mash a ripe banana. Add few drops of honey. Apply it on face and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash it with cool water.
Mix sandal powder, turmeric and cream of milk. Leave it on face for 15 to 20 minutes and wash with lukewarm water.
Apply the pulp of ripe papaya mixed with honey for 20 minutes.
Make a paste out of carrot. Add few drops of orange juice and honey and apply it on the face.
WRINKLES.
As age advances the skin loses its elasticity. The amount of sebum secretion and ability to retain moisture decreases and fat cells become small. This causes wrinkles. Other factors that cause wrinkles are overexposure to sunlight, mental disturbances, hormonal imbalances etc.
Tips to clear wrinkles.
A regular massage using olive oil, cream and honey is good to reduce wrinkles.
Use cabbage juice and honey to massage the skin.
Once in a week use any oil medicated with herbs to massage the body.
